I was unsure whether to listen to this installment before or after beginning The Howling Dark; in practice, it works very well as a standalone adventure. The premise is engaging, the characters are well drawn, and the story feels complete rather than supplemental.

Once again, the prose stands out. Ruocchio’s writing carries a confidence and elegance that elevates even a shorter work, making this novella not just a bridge between larger volumes, but a rewarding entry in its own right.
