Much of what I enjoyed in Empire of Silence continues here, and in many ways that opening volume exists to prepare the reader for this book. The scope widens, the stakes deepen, and the long arc of the story becomes clearer; the prose remains a particular strength, carrying both grandeur and precision.

I will be continuing, not out of habit, but because Ruocchio has shown that he can sustain the beauty, ambition, and care that this story demands.
