This was something of a divertimento from my usual fare. I set out deliberately to sample a dish well outside my normal menu, and while it was not entirely unfamiliar, it was certainly seasoned differently than what I typically consume. I found it interesting and enjoyable, though it did not strike me as the monumental work it is often praised to be.
That reaction may be a matter of timing rather than quality. As an early and influential entry in the modern political thriller, it helped establish a recipe that many later authors would refine. In that light, it deserves its credit. I may return to other works by Forsyth from time to time, but more as an occasional course than as a staple of my regular reading diet.
