I came to this book for its familiar science fiction premise and found a concept with genuine promise. However, recurring tonal choices and a style of humor that did not suit my tastes kept me at a distance. While clearly intentional and likely enjoyable for some, these elements diminished my engagement, leaving it just barely readable for me.
