By: Andy Weir
Narrated by: Rosario Dawson
Length: 8 hrs and 57 mins
I went into this book already aware that it was generally considered weaker than Andy Weir’s other work, and I found that assessment fair. Having expectations set properly helped; approached on its own terms, the novel proved better than I expected while still reinforcing a more measured view of the author’s range. It felt like a lighter composition from a capable composer: technically sound, accessible, and enjoyable, even if it lacks the depth or resonance of his strongest pieces. I am glad I read it, found it easy to enjoy, and do not feel much pull to return.
