The Collected Stories of Arthur C. Clarke

By: Arthur C. Clarke
Narrated by: Ralph Lister, Ray Porter, Jonathan Davis
Length: 51 hrs and 4 mins

This was a LONG set of stories to listen to. What I enjoyed the most was watching the progression of Arthur C. Clarke’s writing style and content across time. From the 1930s through the 90s, you could see how his narrative techniques evolved and how his themes became more sophisticated. Clarke started with simpler, more straightforward tales and gradually moved to complex and thought-provoking narratives that often blended hard science with imaginative speculation. It was also interesting to read about things that were mere speculation at the time he wrote them, but have since become reality, like his concept of communication satellites. Granted, if you make enough guesses, some of them will be right, and certainly, some accounts will never happen. However, enough of his predictions came true that we can sometimes look at him as a sci-fi prophet.
