This review covers the first four books. I had Dungeon Crawler Carl continually recommended for more than a year, often mentioned alongside Red Rising and pushed as one of those series I simply had to try. Given how highly it had been recommended, I found the experience especially disappointing.

By the end of the second book, I was already considering stopping, but I gave the series another chance with the third and then part of the fourth. By then, I felt I had gone far enough to expect something more and more was not forthcoming.
