I enjoyed 1634: The Baltic War, though not as much as the earlier core books in the series. What drew me into those books was how closely they remained tied to recognizable history, even while changing it. As the series moves further away from the world as it actually was, I am curious to see whether it will continue to hold my interest in the same way.
That shift was not unexpected. I knew the alternate history would become more complicated and move further from its original foundations, so adjusting my expectations helped. There is still something fascinating about watching the new world take shape and seeing where the authors decide to take it.
This was not one of my favorites in the series, but it was still a good and worthwhile read. I remain interested enough in the larger story to keep going, even if I suspect I will continue to prefer the books that stay closer to actual history.
