Series: Chronicles of Barsetshire, Book 1
Length: 7 hrs and 42 mins
This was my opening salvo into the world of Anthony Trollope and a welcome change from what I had been reading. I wanted something Victorian, but not Dickens, Austen, or Gaskell, and The Warden gave me exactly that.
It was not especially captivating, but it was a lovely introduction to Trollope’s world. The prose and imagery were beautiful, and reading it felt a little like taking a quiet stroll through an English garden. I did spend some time learning the structure and internal politics of the Church of England, since many of its nuances were unfamiliar to me. That added some work to the reading, but it also helped open the world that Trollope was building.
