I was eventually going to get to Tress of the Emerald Sea, but at the behest of my sister, who had recently read it, I picked it up sooner so I could enjoy it with her. That made it all the better. When I think of Tress now, more than anything I think of warmth. It was a genuinely engaging, comforting adventure, with danger and challenges that never eclipsed that overall feeling.

There are times when I do not need a story to glitter or grab at the great emotions. Tress of the Emerald Sea was like hot cocoa with marshmallows on top, next to a fire on a cool evening in summer, with those you love nearby. If you know Sanderson, you know something of what to expect, while also knowing to expect the unexpected. It was warm, engaging, comfortable, and simply perfect.
